I was wrong about Peanut Butter

peanut butter.

Hands up if you grew up on PB&J sandwiches and eating the stuff right out of the jar?
Me too. But I’ve come to realize that almost everything I thought I knew about peanut butter was wrong.

For starters, peanuts -- despite their name -- are actually not nuts at all. They’re legumes. And that means they contain phytic acid and lectins, both of which can wreak havoc on gut health.

Second, peanut butter is NOT the good source of protein and healthy fats everyone thought it was. In fact, peanuts can support inflammation, which leads to a host of other problems.
And if you’re following a ketogenic diet, you need to be cautious before you pick up any old jar of nut butter at the store, because what’s inside isn’t necessarily pretty.

For example, did you know that most store-bought peanut butters contain hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil? (Yes, even many of the natural ones).

Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils are typically what makes nut butters so thick, creamy, and able to sit on a shelf for months and even a year before it goes bad.

SIDE NOTE: Partially hydrogenated oil also contains trans fat, which I don’t have to tell you are nasty. And just because the label says it’s trans-fat free, doesn’t mean it is so.

The FDA allows up to 0.5 grams of trans fats in trans-fat free products. (They round down).
Many nut butters also contain loads of added sugars. Sometimes they try to hide it with other names like:
  • Molasses
  • Honey
  • Evaporated cane juice
  • Maple syrup
  • Agave
  • Brown rice syrup
  • And tapioca syrup
But at the end of the day, it’s still sugar (and carbs). In some cases, quite a lot of them too.

The good news is now that Perfect Keto Nut Butter is back in stock, you have better options.

Perfect Keto Nut Butter isn’t your typical nut butter. It contains macadamia nuts, which are the king of the ketogenic nuts. They are the least inflammatory and most nutritious.
We added real vanilla bean (no extracts, to make it the highest quality nut butter on the market).

We added MCT oil for a dose of brain fuel, a touch of cashews to make it creamy and spreadable & pink sea salt for electrolytes and a divine salty, sweet and creamy.
